[vc_row][vc_column][vc_video link=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iOIYtLpS600″][vc_column_text]We’re launching another Birthing Better Short Course … Breathing, Communication and Touch birth and birth-coaching skills. When we launched the Body Skills Short Course a few weeks ago we had a hugely positive response. We’ve been online since 2000 and moved from a VHS, cassette and hard copy book to online e-learning. Families have loved their skills. At the same time, we’ve been asked over and over again to break up the whole resource into the 3 skill-sets. We’re now doing that.

Childbirth breathing methods are the best-known set of skills. That started with Lamaze in the 1960s. Even today staff in hospital will tell women to ‘pant, blow’ or show them ‘in/out mouth’ breathing. But the Lamaze, The Bradley Method and other systems offer useful childbirth breathing techniques geared to achieving a natural and pain-free birth. But these techniques don’t often work. Why’s that? That’s what Birthing Better families had to figure out. And we did! These effective, adaptable, sustainable childbirth breathing skills work because they are based on understanding the 4 ways all humans breathe. Once we understand, experience and find our best breathing patterns then those patterns will work!

Communication in childbirth is not skills discussed in childbirth conversation and that’s a shame. We communicate with our own Mind all the time. In childbirth, our Mind can say all sorts of stuff. Frankly, when we have our own birth skills we can override our thoughts through our behaviors. We already know we can do this when we choose in other aspects of Life but no one has taught us the right skills for use in birth.

We also need to effectively communicate with our birth-coach and have him/her communicate with us. Birthing Better families have developed wonderful skills that make so much sense once we’ve learned them.

Touch … There is so much misunderstanding about touch during childbirth. Once again Birthing Better families wanted to figure out how to use touch during birth. Giving birth is such an intimate experience but intimate touch during birth is often rejected as distracting. This means we had to learn a different language using touch. This means touch changed from casual or intimate to being used as a cue to inner softening.

Birthing Better skills were developed by moms and dads in the early 1970s in the US and used by many thousands globally in all types of birth. Birthing Better online birthing classes are housed in Common Knowledge Trust.
