The MUMBOD ... There’s no doubt that a new way of looking at childbirth is beginning to unfold … something we have worked toward and waited for these past 45 years.

One of the most profound sentences in this article is this: ‘…the physical and emotional journey we took when our birth plan didn’t quite go to plan.’

Goodness … if only all families had skills. Changes to birth plans does not lead to the ‘rollercoaster’ because skilled families commit to using their skills no matter what.
Families pick themselves up one way or another after birth. Without a doubt if you moved through your pregnancy with skills (see the 10 skills to develop through the 5 Phases of pregnancy) as well as through The Birth you will reduce or prevent that roller coaster when Birth Plans change. I mean, look at the picture further down in the article of a pregnant woman jumping in the air naked. Mostly likely she believed that she could birth naturally, be intuitive and the birth would be beautiful as she imagined. What no one told her is that any health issue that arrived was going to be ‘natural’ or a ‘natural part’ of being pregnant.
Is a Caesarean ‘natural’? Of course not, it’s surgery. However, birthing your baby via a Caesarean is normal in this day and age whether you planned one or not. If you’ve planned one then you’ve had months to learn skills and you consciously can look forward to your Caesarean birth with an eye to using skills on the way to hospital, while being prepped and during surgery. If you’re suddenly faced with a huge change from what you imagined, with skills you’ll still birth your baby beautifully if in an expected manner.
