Get your COMPLIMENTARY eBook for Father-to-be Here’s another profound article about TABS … trauma after birth syndrome … as experienced by men, fathers, and partners. In the last post, I mentioned that statistically 15% of women experience trauma after birth and I said many more men than that. In my 45 years experience, closer to 80% of men are traumatized by pregnancy, birth and the newborn period. This is NOT recognized, ignored and basically treated as though it’s really women who carry all the responsibility and who are left being traumatized.

Women are more traumatized then we think but often this is part of the Heroine’s Journey that we discussed in the previous posts. Because we don’t really understand this transformation, we mistake our own dynamic as being traumatic. This is true for dads as well. That is why Birthing Better dads developed the 10 skills to grow throughout pregnancy to The Birth  and why both dads and moms developed all the skills to prepare the pregnant body for birth as well as the birth and birth-coaching skills in Birthing Better online birthing class.

We cannot stress enough how each of us is UNINTENTIONALLY causing so much trauma to ourselves because society has not yet connected being skilled to moving from ‘becoming’ to ‘being’ a father (and mother). As humans we do not instinctively know how to parent any more than we know what foods are safe to eat when we’re hungry or how to be a good lover when we’re randy.

In Lesson 1 of Birthing Better we’ll guide you through an understanding of our human commonality once we fall pregnant. These eBooks set the stage for you to take the first step toward growing your skills so that you can reduce and prevent trauma around pregnancy, birth and afterwards.
