If you are pregnant and getting ready to have a baby, you’re probably going to be waiting a total of nine and a half months, right? While it can be very simple and enjoyable to think about the future or recall the past, what you need to do the most is live in the Now. You need to be aware of everything currently happening in and around you so that you can better deal with whatever my happen with your baby.
Stress can be a nasty effect from the excitement of birth, but remembering to live in the Now will help to alleviate this feeling as much as possible. To have a really successful birth, you need to have the skills in three areas: Mindfulness, Flow, and Attitude.
The first, Mindfulness, concerns your ability to recognize things happening in the immediate timeframe. Not things that have happened, not things that may happen, but things happening right this second. If you focus on your body, it will be easier to understand and recognize anything it may be doing. For example, your contractions could be very painful, but by focusing, you can think of the proper way to reorient yourself to relieve those pains.
Flow, the second aspect, deals with your ability to, well, go with the flow. Things will happen that are entirely out of your control, but they are in the past the moment they happen. You need to be capable of reacting accordingly to whatever may happen during your birthing experience. Being able to work on what is currently happening can once more help to make things go smoother.
Lastly, Attitude is perhaps the most important to understand. The mindset you are in will be directly reflected in the situation. If you are in a negative mindset, pain will be worse, it will take longer, and nothing good will happen. If, however, you are in a positive frame of mind, you can work more efficiently to reduce pain and alleviate stress.
Remember to live in the Now rather than in any other time. Your baby is your primary focus and they need your undivided attention, so when they have something to tell you, you should be listening.
