Common Knowledge Trust … was formed in 1996 in New Zealand. It is registered with New Zealand Charities Services # CC24400 as a tax-exempt not-for-profit. Our mission is educational.

One branch holds Birthing Better online birth classes were gifted to our Trust by the families and mothers who developed these skills in the US in the early 1970s and the Founder and Director.

Common Knowledge Trust promotes a bigger Concept around global childbirth. The Concept is simple. When a woman becomes pregnant, it should be natural and normal for her to have access to skills to prepare her pregnant body for birth as well as birth skills she can use throughout her baby’s birth no matter the circumstances.

Presently, around the world, there are no societal expectations that pregnant women become skilled to birth their babies. Birth just happens because there is no way to know what birth will be like. Yet, birth unfolds and all birthing women can use relaxation and breathing skills at the minimum. Our Trust wants to change that. Everyone is responsible to see birth as an activity that would be enriched by the use of simple skills.

Within this bigger Concept, sits the Birthing Better Childbirth Preparation online courses alongside the other available skills-based methods. Childbirth skills are distinctively different from childbirth information which has been the present approach to childbirth since the early 1980s.

Childbirth information is essential because there is so much to learn about. However, information focuses on the ‘what’. Childbirth skills are all about the ‘how’. Birth is ‘doing’. It’s a dynamic activity in all its forms. Childbirth skills are ‘how’ women cope, manage, work through, deal with, handle, stay on top and feel in control as they ‘do’ this dynamic activity.

All proceeds from sales return to our Charitable Trust to further the mission to grow a skilled global birthing population in all births without exception.
