These are the BIG 10 focuses that BirthingBetter families have found to be the most important.
- Breath = focus: Directed Breath, be aware of sounds.
- Language: Communicate your needs verbally/non-verbally or your birth coach. Let your mind say anything and use your managing part of your brain to apply your skills .. THIS IS WHAT WE LOVED THE MOST ABOUT THESE SKILLS!
- Touch: Use to relax the woman.
- Stay open = focus: Use positions that suit your unique body.
- Relax inside: Pelvic Clock = focus.
- Keep the pelvis mobile: Use techniques – Kate’s Cat, Sacral Maneouvre etc.
- Don’t go into labour tired: Rest in the early stages = discipline.
- Stay in the NOW: Be in every contraction, then let it go.
- Team work: Work together to manage the labour.
- Stay determined: Pain in childbirth is usually part of the process, and needs to be managed. If your care provider doesn’t think the ‘pain’ is a problem, then just work through it. Labour is over with more quickly than your years of parenting. Of course you can get through it!
