Without a doubt the greatest of all fathering skills you can grow is humour. Often mothers and fathers-to-be find little humour during phase #1 of pregnancy but the humor comes back during this phase. Increasingly through phase #2 and #3 are settled Times and moments of humour arise and help relieve the huge adjustment everyone experiences from conception to 12 weeks.

‘A person without a sense of humor is like a wagon without springs. It’s jolted by every pebble on the road’.

Henry Ward Beecher

‘A well-developed sense of humor is the pole that adds balance to your steps as you walk the tightrope of life’.

William A. Ward

‘Common sense and a sense of humor are the same things, moving at different speeds. A sense of humor is just common sense, dancing’

William James

‘Humor is mankind’s greatest blessing’.

Mark Twain

‘A sense of humor is a major defense against minor troubles’.

Mignon McLaughlin

‘A sense of humor… is needed armor. Joy in one’s heart and some laughter on one’s lips is a sign that the person down deep has a pretty good grasp of life’.

Hugh Sidey

And then there’s always: ‘Don’t sweat the small stuff, everything’s small stuff’ or ‘laughter is the best medicine.’

Humor within yourself is not about telling a joke. It’s definitely not about putting others down. Humor can have no cause. Laughter needs no reason to bubble up. Giggles, laughter, chuckles, hahaheehee can all be created (even artificially) just because you know that a certain situation is becoming too serious or out of balance.

Our body feels good when it smiles and laughs. Cartoons in your head can help you use your inner vision to see humor in situations that can transform from being serious into being light-hearted and resolvable.

Phase #2 of pregnancy to use humor to enjoy your baby’s growth. Then turn your humor to all aspects of your life.

Your bottom line

Once your baby is born then there will be so, so, so many times when humor will stop you from being a grouch.
